wireless switch 1Wireless switches are everywhere today, including the miracle of starting your frozen car without leaving the house.   The ability to control a device without having to connect wires make these switches economical and convenient.    Wireless switches can prove to be very useful in brightening a dark stairway, adding an accent light to a book case, or in improving conditions in a room with two doors and only one light switch.   For less than $50, you can avoid cutting into a wall, fishing electrical cable through it, and adding a switch or an outlet.   Plus, you can add this switch to your home in about 10 minutes versus an hour or more of an electrician’s time at wiring work.

The first image (above) is an example of a type of wireless switch you can buy for a lamp.  If you want to put a light in a place where there is no existing wiring, this type of switch might be a good solution for your home.   The transmitter sends a signal to the adapter which allows the electrical power to go through to the bulb, or stopping it from going through.

wireless switch 2The second image shows another type of wireless switch — a simple plug-in socket that receives the cord from a lamp.   The radio-controlled switch transmits a frequency to the switch causing it to turn on and off.   This type of switch could easily be added to almost any outlet in your home or office.  These can be purchased with 2 transmitters so that you can install a 3-way combination without any wiring.  If you are concerned about how to install them, Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions and you’ll be just fine.

The only negative issue with wireless switches is that they use batteries, which will need to be replace from time to time.   However, the price of a few replacement batteries per year is a small trade off for the savings in installation and time.
